Ubucon Europe 2016: Opening

The Ubucon Europe was opened with a small introduction by Sujeevan Vijayakumaran, one of the main organizers, about the conditions in the UnPerfekthaus and the number and distribution of the visitors.

Registered are 170 visitors, but this does not include people with a day ticket. Half of the visitors come from Germany, but there are also many participants from France, the USA, Spain and more than 30 countries.

And immediately there was a surprise. Sujeevan's opening ended with the words: ... there would be "One more thing ..." He gave the word to Marius Gripsgård of UBports. In a short lecture he introduced a device for which he would like to start a kickstarter soon.

The device is a new dock for Ubuntu phones that provides connectors for video, audio, and USB. When connected to the dock is a monitor, a USB mouse and keyboard, it turns every Ubuntu Phone into a Convergence desktop experience. The trick on this dock is that the connection to the Ubuntu Phone communicates exclusively via the standard USB port.

This means that theoretically really all Ubuntu phones could use this dock. More details about this great device you will soon find out.
