People believe that the upsurgence of fake news may have swayed the U.S. presidential election. In addition to that, the spreading of fake “pizzagate” news about a child sex ring run out of a basement at a D.C. pizza joint, caused a man to fire an assault rifle inside the restaurant.
Facebook is finally coming up with ways to tackle the spreading of fake news. Now, if enough people report a story as fake, Facebook will pass the story to fact-checking organizations part of the nonprofit Poynter Intitute. Facebook is currently working with ABC News, The Associated Press, factcheck.org, Politifact, and Snopes to fact check links on the social media website.
