I have used Manjaro for a year now and enjoy it on my desktop, but was searching for a different option for my laptop. I didn't find satisfaction in any of the current suggestions, but when Ubuntu 24.10 was released and I desired gnome, I just reluctantly decided to give Ubuntu a shot.
I love nostalgic theming that is modern and pleasing on 1080p screens, even though it may be superficial - it brings me joy. Only five seconds needed to include flatpacks. Next, there are also snapD, Ubuntu packages, and flatpacks available. Almost everything has some type of choice. Certain issues that malfunction in other distributions run smoothly on Ubuntu.
Limited maintenance has been conducted up to this point.
Ubuntu 24.10 fixes many of the flaws that gnomes have. Dashtodock has already been integrated, with smaller buttons, improved icons, and most importantly, the store now requires less time to search for an app. However, you still have the simplicity and positive aspects of gnome available.
My dislikes:
Some snaps are not good, such as browser performance issues, while others like chimpstakr are excellent but can be hard to understand. While it is simple to include flatpacks, Ubuntu should avoid setting snap defaults such as Firefox, which was very slow when used for the first time. If your computer is not good, this Linux system will not run smoothly because it requires a significant amount of resources.
A 9 out of 10 rating for a convenient system designed for individuals who prefer to avoid adjusting settings and simply focus on tasks. I'm loving it way more than 24.04 as a new version, celebrating 20 years of Ubuntu.
